On an overcast September day in 2002, a student was serving at a slightly finer restaurant in Maastricht, it would turn out that that particular day would change his life. The head chef did not appear and the restaurant manager wondered if any of the wait staff had any cooking skills. He said yes with great enthusiasm and took on the job, it went beyond expectations and he got the opportunity to manage the kitchen instead. One evening after service, a dinner guest showed up in the kitchen a little too thoughtfully and asked if the chef could be hired for a private dinner. This was the start of Rent a Chef, where Gunnar Frykfors changed his mind from graduate economist to chef and entrepreneur. In 2004, a company with the exact name Rent a Chef was started in Stockholm, 20 years have passed since then and food and passion have always been at the center.
